there's no place like new york

the city that never sleeps,
concrete jungle where dreams are made,
the big apple,
city of bright lights,
whatever you want to call it, new york city is undeniably one of the best cities in the world.
i might be a bit biased since that is where i was born and raised, but the high number of tourists is proof.
i had the pleasure of spending my spring break at home and boy were there plenty of people roaming the city. i found it extremely funny when i was showing the city hotspots to my college friends from out of state. if you're from new york city, you'll agree with me when i say you should never stop in the middle of the sidewalk. well, that is exactly what they did multiple times and if you're from nyc, you'll know my friends thought nycers deserved their reputation as rude people, seeing as they kept getting pushed to the curb. the explanation? a journalist once elucidated the situation for city visitors that nycers are not rude, we simply have places to go and people to see and everyone else is just in our way. it is unfortunate that you might get nudged into a street light or have to adjust your purse strap every minute, but as you will figure out, city time flies about 4 times faster than the rest of the world's. eventually my friends learned to leave a passageway when they stopped and to walk on the right side. it's astonishing to see how these non-city folk assimilated to nyc culture after just one afternoon stroll. in soho, i bought a pair of nike free runs and hopefully they will motivate me to go to the gym more often. it's difficult though when you've got a full schedule without time to even breathe. but they are so flexible and comfortable and when combined with the warmer weather, i expect these factors to push me into a health grind.
over break, i also visited the met museum and oh my goodness am i obsessed with good architecture.
greek and european art are my favorite..
the pictures may be a bit blurry because flash alters the colors of the artwork, but it is still clear enough to recognize the beauty. be captivated..

so weird - my friend who visited the met with me is not a fan of modern art. i honestly have no preference, i can find beauty in anything. i do believe though that modern art is more innovative and really makes you think, while older art is appealing to the eye and has finer lines. however, all art tells a story and as my english professor would quote, "art is a lie that makes us realize the truth."
